The Bright!Tax Awards Committee is proud to announce that Calev Isaacson is the latest recipient of the Global Scholar Award.
The Awards Committee found Calev’s story and ambitions inspirational. He grew up in Arizona, where his father’s family had emigrated to from war-torn Europe in the 1940s. His mother’s family meanwhile were originally Mexican. Calev grew up with an international perspective, as the family travelled to the middle east several times when he was a child to volunteer in humanitarian aid programs assisting the victims of war.
Calev developed a passion for Theoretical Physics at a young age. Still only 19, he enrolled for college level classes aged 12, and entered Indiana University East full time at age 15.
“My greatest academic accomplishments surround a 3-year honors thesis, in which I created a computer program to simulate quantum gravitational interactions. My work garnered recognition in the form of a 2019 research grant and prompted me to speak about my physics research at numerous honors conferences across the US.”
Calev was recruited by his university to lead fellow honors students as a peer mentor. In this capacity, he coached peers as they developed their own research projects, and co-presented with the University Honors Director effective honors mentoring strategies at regional conferences.
Now having completed his undergraduate degree, Calev has enrolled in a postgraduate Masters degree course at the University of York in the UK.
“My personal focus is on the Graviton, or the quantum particle of gravity. In my field, most major breakthroughs happen thanks to international cooperation, and I now desire to discover my place in this community.“
The course is, however, fully remote, and Calev won’t be leaving the U.S., a first for a Bright!Tax Global Scholar. Caleb will be studying remotely from Indiana, juggling the five hour time difference with his tutors in the UK.
“Calev is an exceptional young American who has found a way to realize his ambition of connecting with the international community and studying ‘abroad’, despite the travel restrictions imposed by the Covid pandemic.” – Greg Dewald, Bright!Tax Founder & CEO
“My aspiration is to discover the next Unified Field Theory. Specifically, my research seeks to develop quantum gravity, or the theorized intersection between gravity and quantum mechanics. Receiving the Bright!Tax scholarship is tremendous, as it not only provides financial benefit, but is a symbol of support of my ambitions.”
In his spare time, Calev is a competitive fencing youth coach.
Bright!Tax is the leading provider of US tax services for Americans living abroad. The Bright!Tax Global Scholar Award is now in its sixth year, having been created in 2016 to provide young Americans the opportunity to study overseas.
Bright!Tax founder and CEO Greg Dewald said: “Calev is an exceptional young American who has found a way to realize his ambition of connecting with the international community and studying ‘abroad’, despite the travel restrictions imposed by the Covid pandemic. We wish him every success, and with our support I know he’ll achieve great things.”
