Bright!Tax Announces Partnership with the United Nations Federal Credit Union
Bright!Tax, the leading provider of US tax services for Americans living abroad, has forged an exciting new partnership with the United Nations Federal Credit Union to offer banking services to our US expat clients wherever in the world they reside.
For a variety of reasons, including FATCA (2010 The Foreign Asset Tax Compliance Act), many Americans living abroad have encountered tremendous difficulties accessing banking services over the last few years. …
Bright!Tax has been working hard to find a solution for its expat clients, who live in over 190 countries worldwide.
The United Nations Federal Credit Union (UNFCU) was founded in 1947 to provide banking services for UN employees working abroad. With over 70 years experience serving a highly mobile and international clientele, the UNFCU is the perfectly positioned partner to provide total banking services to Bright!Tax’s US expat clients.
As a credit union, the UNFCU is not for profit, but otherwise functions exactly like a bank, offering checking and savings accounts, online and mobile banking, debit and credit cards, and personal loans, as well as a suite of other financial products and services.
Bright!Tax’ US expatriate clients may now apply for UNFCU banking services alongside UN employees based overseas.
Americans living abroad are required to continue filing US taxes, declaring their worldwide income, wherever in the world they live. Many must also report their foreign bank and investment accounts by filing an annual FBAR (Foreign Bank Account Report). Over the last few years, through a relentless pursuit of excellence, Bright!Tax has streamlined the process of filing US taxes from abroad, employing innovations such as an intuitive, secure online client interface and mobile filing to make the process as smooth and hassle-free as possible.
UNFCU bank accounts don’t qualify for or trigger FBAR filing however, as they are not considered to be foreign accounts.
“The UNFCU has a long and noble tradition providing banking services to UNFCU employees who work overseas, and we are proud that our clients can now access the same services, wherever in the world they live.”
– Greg Dewald, Bright!Tax CEO
Greg Dewald, Bright!Tax founder and CEO, hails the UNFCU as the ideal partner to provide banking services to Bright!Tax’s US expat clients:
“Many issues have led to US expats having difficulty accessing banking and investment services over the last few years. We hear this from our clients all the time. There was hope that the recent Tax Reform might help alleviate the situation, but alongside lobbying for positive legislative change we have also been striving to find alternative solutions. The UNFCU has a long and noble tradition providing banking services to UNFCU employees who work overseas, and we are proud that our clients can now access the same services, wherever in the world they live.”
To apply for UNFCU banking services, Bright!Tax clients should email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a referral code that they can then use to apply on the UNFCU website. The UNFCU also cross references applications with Bright!Tax to ensure that applicants are current Bright!Tax clients.
The partnership allows Bright!Tax expat clients to apply despite not being UN employees nor having a residential address in the US.
Expats who aren’t currently a Bright!Tax client should register for Bright!Tax to complete their US tax return(s) now by clicking on the button below to obtain the opportunity to access UNFCU banking services.
